![]() ![]() If all of us-and especially today’s young people-apply their ingenuity to this problem, we can avoid a climate disaster. I’m optimistic about what science and technology can accomplish, and even more important, I’m optimistic about what people can accomplish. ![]() Getting to zero emissions will be the hardest thing people have ever done. In my experience, they’re the ones with the most new ideas, and the most energy to pursue them. Which means young people need to play a special role. That’s going to take a ton of innovation in both technology and policy. It’s called How to Avoid a Climate Disaster: The Solutions We Have and the Breakthroughs We Need, and it will be published by Knopf on February 16. We need to revolutionize our entire physical economy, including the way we move things around the planet, produce electricity, make things, grow food, and heat and cool our buildings. I’ve been working for some time now on a book about climate change, and I want to share an update now that we have some details nailed down. How to Avoid a Climate Disaster: The Solutions We Have and the Breakthroughs We Need is about all the steps we need to take to keep the planet livable for humans. Now what we need is a plan for getting to zero. As a result, they’re making those commitments. Young people are holding their governments accountable and insisting that they commit to eliminating their carbon emissions. ![]()

![]() ![]() I really didn't expect to see that, there have been so many similar films that have used this simple premise but its interesting to see the very first of the genre. When they manage to bring a huge Brontosaurus back to London only for it to escape and run amok destroying half of Westminster, I was quite surprised. It wasn't until the later of the film that I realised how much of an early Kong film this was. So the team set out mainly to rescue but also to try and discover lost dinosaurs and naturally try and bring one back. The reason being firstly to rescue an explorer who has been lost on the plateau and because of his journal that shows sketches of dinosaurs. The plot involves a team of adventures, professors and scientists (and the obligatory female) that venture deep into Venezuela to a large plateau. This being the first time I have seen the film I was surprised at the fact its basically the very first King Kong film. And it was the first film to show animated models as the main feature within a film, or the main special effect.welcome to the lost world. ![]() It was the first dinosaur based fantasy film which inevitably led to more monster/dino movies, the spark that lit the fuse as it were. Often firmly entrenched in the erotic romance genre, reverse harem novels will give you plenty of sexual fantasy material, but of course also loads and loads of sweet sweet romance. But maybe we are just thinking about it the wrong way.Īnyways, reverse harem novels are, as the name implies, all about one lady presiding graciously over a gaggle of men who are crazy about their lady but not crazily jealous about each other. Probably because reading about a lady living the polyamorous dream with not only 2 men but rather f+mmmmmm seems way less exhausting than actually living it. ![]() Reverse harem romance books have become insanely popular in the last few years. ![]() ![]() ![]() Nor, again despite its title and the characters it links to, is this book anywhere near your run of the mill crime or ‘literary crime novel’ either. ![]() Despite the fact that they are the title characters of the book they aren’t actually the main characters throughout, well maybe Hawthorn is in a way (see this book is delightfully tricky), but they do link all the stories that create this wonderfully quirky novel appearing in the forefront or back ground of every tale/chapter. Hawthorn and Child are two partners in fighting crime in London. Do not let this put you off in the slightest because this is actually one of the many things that is so blooming brilliant about a book that takes risks in its writing style and had this reader completely thrilled by it. There is very much a slightly dreamlike, or occasionally nightmarish, quality to a book which is in a way a novel and also very much a collection of short stories that sort of interweave and interlink and sort of don’t. ![]() It doesn’t seem any accident that the opening of ‘Hawthorn & Child’ starts with Hawthorn asleep and dreaming as his partner Child drives them to a hospital to interview someone who has been shot before they are operated upon. ![]() Granta Books, hardback, 2012, fiction, 282 pages, kindly sent by the publishers ![]() ![]() ![]() Deluxe slipcased signed limited hardcover edition signed by Hill and Christopher Golden (introduction author) and numbered 1-200 ( ISBN 1-90).The three formats available before publication were: Released in October 2005, this short story collection was released in a limited edition format only. ![]() Also in October, Apple Inc.'s United States iTunes Store released audiobook versions of the stories in this edition, at US$0.95 per short story, through 29 October.
